Road Fatalities per million (average 2014-2024) (Ireland)

This map shows the AVERAGE road fatalities per county over the last ten years, per million people. RSA data of the number of fatalities per county has been used, along with 2022 census data to show fatalities per million.

Setting aside urban (slower speeds, public transport, footpaths, cycle lanes) vs rural, some rural comparisons are vital. Why is Mayo so much more dangerous than neighbouring Sligo?

Why are Donegal, Roscommon, Tipperary, Monaghan and Mayo consistently so plagued by road tragedy. What else can the Roads Departments of these councils do to be more like Waterford and Laois?
