Global interest on Football (Mundo)

This map shows the Global interest on football, the most popular sport across the globe. I took the data from Neilsen sports, with the data I decided to divide the selected countries in 5 differents groups of interest: Very high, High, Moderate, Low and Very low. If you think that the most interested countries in Football are the most succesfull teams then I need to tell that you're wrong and the group of very highly interested countries is a good proof of that. There we can find world champions teams like Argentina and Uruguay who in the last world cups reached Semifinals and Final respectively, we have also medium to good teams like Colombia, Nigeria, Mexico and Chile and then we have teams that ocassionally qualify to the world cup like Thailand, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia so the high interest on football not always is followed by a good performance by the national teams.

In the group of the Highly intersted countries we have a huge variety in terms of National teams performance and lot of big countries also. In this group we have 4 World champions: Germany, Italy, Brazil and Spain. We have also teams that do it well in the World cup like Russia and South Korea and team that don't do it that well but they still stand a chance like Egypt, South Africa, Poland, Qatar,Greece,Turkey and Iran.

In the group of the Moderate interested countries we have also 2 World Champions the most recent one, France and United Kingdom. We also have well ranked teams and very performant in the last years like Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands but also minor teams like Ireland and Singapore. This group is the last one were we will find well rankd teams and world champions.

In the next Group we have the countries with low interest on football. Here we have minor teams like USA and Australia although both teams rarely don't qualify to the World cup, however they are not really performant and their biggest achievement is to advance from the Group Stage. We also have minor teams like Finland and Norway but their national teams have not any memorable participation at the World cup or Eurocup in recent times.

And finally we have the group of the very low interested countries on football. We have very big countries like China, India, Pakistan and Canada. But there is an exception: New Zealand, this team qualified to the 2010 South Africa World Cup and tied it's 3 matches at the Group stage running out 3rd in their group.

In conclusion we can say that a country needs to have a certain interest in football to have a succesfull team although this doesn't guarantee good results. Hope you enjoyed the post! Remember to follow me in Instagram https://www.instagram.com/random_maps1/
